Computer Freezes

    Hi There,

    I bought a new PC about a year ago and recently it began to freeze randomly. It got to the point where i couldnt load windows for more than 10 minutes without it freezing. I sent it back to the factory, they couldnt find anything wrong with it but they reloaded windows and it was fine for about 3 weeks. The freezing is happening again.

    It generally freezes during world of warcraft. At first I thought it was game related. Evidently it now occurs during any process. Keep in mind this is a reformatted and reloaded PC with nothing on it except MS office, MSN and WOW. I've done the following:

    1) Ran windows repair
    2) Compacted and repaired the registry
    3) Updated all drivers including the VPU drivers
    4) Installed another cooling fan (Althought the PC has 4 already)
    5) Uninstalled all software and reinstalled it
    6) Checked everything was wired correctly inside the PC

    When the system freezes you cannot turn the system off by the main power or reset button. You must manually turn it off by the switch at the back.

    Has anyone else experienced this? The ram was replaced in the machine as well as the CPU/motherboard. That is ruled out. I ran a diagnostic on the harddrive as well. It's raid stripped... any ideas???

    hmmm if u raided your computer and reinstalled everything then thats no problem... ur stats are far more excellent may you want to do a ewido scan at http//www.ewido.com and try scanning for anything malware realistic. plus.. some adware can stay attached to your computer even if you reformatted it.

    Can you try another graphics card?
    the one you have may be on the way out - does it have a cooling fan? is it clean, does it spin?

    You might also post a hijackthis log for our malware experts to analyze--that may be another cause.

    Download hijackthis here:

    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.

    Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
    Click Edit > Select All> Edit > Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
    Paste the log in your next reply.

    DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    Please be patient--malware experts in this forum have blue or gold shields next to their names. The volume of malware issues is very high sometimes.

    The graphics card is fine. It's literally 3 months old. There would be no viruses or malware on the system as nothing else has been used. Furthermore it was happening before the reformat. With a full system reformat (not fast) and BIOS reload there is no possibility of anything being there.

    I have ran the WOW corruption tool, but the problem is it freezes in different applications when WOW is not running ruling out corruption. :mad:

    Ill post the hijack log in a few minutes.

    I have exacly the same problem! My computer freezes during practicly any operation (music or video playback, games). I did all the things 'greycam' did... nothing. Ihave no spyware, malware or viruses. Registry is fine. All drivers up to date. What else can i do??:(

    Did you fix tis problem? I am having the same problem but have found it is related to my Belkin Wireless USB Network Adapter, when I remove it, the computer no longer crashes. Does anyone know if there is a way of repairing this?
