Sometimes my computer would freeze or slow to a crawl, regardless of what I'm doing, even if it's idle. When it slows, the computer stutters every second or so (Task manager shows CPU usage go up and down every second) and everything takes a lot longer to open/close/etc. When restarting afterwards, sometimes I'd get "A disk read error occured, press ctrl alt del to restart", or it'll hang on "Detecting IDE Drives" and then it'd do this test thing and "Media test failure, check cable". I figure these are all related and it's the cause of faulty hardware, but I don't know what. Please help.
