A tech just did some software work on our old IBM Thinkpad (about six years old) and it freezes constantly, sometimes before the desktop even loads. New stuff: Windows 98 was upgraded to 98SE; wi-fi card added and configured; Wordperfect 12 added. I'm willing to believe that the new programs (98SE and/or WP12) might be the culprits, but before we remove them, might inadequate systems resources or something else be the problem? Any advice? (Note: My old desktop, similar vintage, went through the same upgrades--98SE, WP12--with no problems. Only difference was no wi-fi work. Any thoughts about why the laptop had special problems?)

How much memory is installed?

And does it ever freeze after being shutdown for an extended period and cold started?

I'm thinking it could be an overheating problem otherwise.

Also post a HijackThis Scanlog:

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply
