I recently had to clean my computer of several malware and spy ware programs. After running the clean up programs a few times, i noticed that my sound stopped working. I can hear the system beeps from the computer, but i cannot get any sound from the speakers, or any outputs.

I have a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio when i went to the device manager, i noticed a yellow exclamation mark right next to it. I press properties, and it said:
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

I am currently running windows XP. Any help will be really appriciated

Thanks for your reply. I have checked the speakers by connecting other speakers and headphones, there is no sound. The volume setting is all the way up, and they are all unmuted. the only sound that comes out of the computer is the little "bing" that comes out to alert you made a mistake.

Check in your BIOS setup settings: under on-board devices, audio device... it should be enabled.

Click Start.

In the search bar type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Click the + next to the pane Sound, Video and Game Controllers so it expands, showing all installed hardware.

Take a screenshot of this window and attach the file in your next post.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

What's the exact make and model of the problem PC?

(e.g. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530s).

Try here for the audio drivers for that computer.

Though I have a feeling they won't work for the SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio, it's worth a try.
