    Hi there.

Having built a new computer for myself, I decided to give my old one to my sister.

The problem is that it completely stopped working.

Every now and then, when I started up my computer, the screen would remain black and the computer would make this long *BEEEEEEEEEEP* noise over and over again. Usually, holding down the power button and restarting the computer would work. But for some reason, this no longer works.

Could someone tell me what is the significance of the sound?

beep code usually mean one of two things ram or video. You can get beep codes for a variety of hardware failures. I have never seen them, beep codes for me have always been video or ram. power off, unplug , reseat your video card and ram.
