Is there any software on this machine which would allow a remote login?

Is the computer networked?

For what it's worth I can mimic the exact behavior you are experiencing by accessing my "Vista Business" machine from my XP Home machine using remote desktop.

The Vista machine simply blanks out and returns to the login screen.
