I recently bought a new scanner and installed Paperport 7 software to go with it . The scanner is a Visioneer 8700 USB.
My problem is: The program will not load from the desk top nor the program menu. When I double click on either icon the computer locks up and I have to manually power down and reboot. The program will open by scanning an object and sending it to Paperport but that is the only way it will open.
My computer is brand new and I just bought and installed the scanner. My equipment is as follows:
ECS motherboard #M830LR - 266 bus SiS chipset
    300Watt power supply
    AMD 1.4 Thunderbird CPU
    256M DDR Ram
    56K V90 PCI modem
40G Maxor IDE hard drive- 30.2G available
6.5G Maxor IDE hard drive- 2.3G available
Logitec cordless mouse on PC/2 port
    1.4 NEC floppie drive
    TDK CD/RW 16/10/40 ROM
    Creative DVD/CD ROM
Rage Pro Turbo PCI 8M Video card
    American Megatrends BIOS 7.00T
HP 882C Printer on parallel port
    Visioneer Scanner 8700 USB
Windows 98 SE - fresh, OEM install

The program started to work one day and I thought everything was fine but when I turned the computer on the next day it would not work again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and nothing seems to work. I closed all programs except Explorer and Systray and still nothing.
I am also having the same problem with Microsoft Picture it.
    Please help!!

Well, by the sounds of the specs on your comp, the prob dont lie there..unlesss you got bad memory, procesor,,,the scanner may have came with several programs you may have noticed,,try removing only one program at a time,,then testing,it might be one of those twain apps.,you may find that the isssue is with only one program....since you do have 98,,dont think it would matter much, but how is the system resources,,,??? take a look around for any irq conflicts,,,

I have downloaded the latest drivers, etc. from Paperport. Also, I checked the component file and find no conflicts or troubles.
