Hi, my computer (IDell Dimension 5150) was having problems booting, it would lag at the last bar of the BIOS loading screen. After a while, it wouldn't turn on, a flashing amber light which meant that there was a power source but wasn;t reaching it internally, and the suggestion from the manual was to check voltage. I reallly regret it now but I was in a hurry and i was playing around with the voltage switch and changed it from 230 to 115 and I heard a pop noise and now the Green LED light isn't on anymore and computer won't boot. I don't smell anything funny so I hope it's ok. I really need the computer so if you guys could help out, Thanks heaps.
It sounds as though you set the PSU to accept the 115v supply and you gave it 230v from the wall socket. This proably blew the circuit inside the PSU of the computer. Have you tried simply switching it back to 230v and trying to boot again?
Hi guys thanks for the replies. I've tried rebooting with the correct voltage and it doesn't work. The computer wasn't fully on so i think it's all good. Do I need to replace the whole PSU or just a portion? Where's the cheapest place to buy it online or how much should it cost if I get it from a store? Thanks.
Also watch this video to see how to change the PSU.
