My computer recently was hijacked, (homepage changed, etc.) I think I have gotten the problem fixed but ever since this my pc has ran slower, including the internet, i have dsl. It is especially bad when i have two or more programs open, when I switch from one to the other the pc will hesitate a second or two and then switch, could anyone give me some advice on this? Thanks

There is nothing in the log that may contribute to this issue. Run HJT and fix the following lines:

O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {4AA1B980-C11F-11D9-8CAE-0030BDB3D44A} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {4AA1B980-C11F-11D9-8CAE-0030BDB3D44A} - (no file)

Go to the Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. Attempt to remove Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools. You will be given the option to repair the Internet Explorer. Select that option and follow instructions on screen to repair the IExplorer.

Also perform DiskCleanup, Scandisk and Disk Defragmentation.

You can also download Ccleaner:

Clean all unnecessary files and registry issues.

Another suggestion - download and install Mozilla Firefox. You'll be amased at the page loading speed of this free browser!

That computer is capable of using 256 MB of RAM(a 128 MB module in each of its 2 slots), so maximize it and replace the 64 MB module with a 128 MB module. With a 500 MHz Intel Celeron processor, that computer needs all the RAM that it can get.

----------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few programs running in the background that don't need to be. The smaller the startup list is kept, the better the overall performance will be.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab). Remove the checkmark from the following:

loadpowerprofile (both entries)

realsched.exe

mstask.exe

Once you're done, click Apply - OK, then reboot.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Reducing the graphic load will help a little more with performance.

Right-click an empty space in the desktop, then click Properties from the drop-down menu. When the Display properties window appears, click the Settings tab. Change the color palette from 32-bit true color to 16-bit high color, then click Apply - OK. The monitor may black out for a couple of seconds, which is normal. When it reappears, click Yes to accept the change.

---------------------------------------------------------------

After you've done the above and rebooted, run another scan with HijackThis, then post a new log here.
