    Hi
About 3-4 weeks ago I formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows XP, because my PC was starting to really slow down to sometimes frustrating speeds (It had been about 2 years since I've done it)

Now I'm finding that once again my computer is running slowly, pretty much the same as how it was before I reinstalled Windows.
I have a small variety of scanners and anti virus/spyware programs (AVG 7.5, CA 2007, Adaware SE Personal), however they haven't been picking up much at all besides tracking cookies.

I DID pick up a couple of Trojans with AVG, titled KillAV.exe or something of the likes (I've deleted them out of the vault, so I can't really get the name for you)
Apart from that, I haven't picked up anything (except CA Anti-Spyware is picking up uTorrent as a high-risk Trojan, even though I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, deleted it, downloaded it again, installed it, etc - It's never been targeted before)

Sooo, I'm not sure whether or not this is a virus problem.

Basically the troubles I'm having is that sometimes various applications will take longer to load than they should, sometimes up to 30 seconds to open.
One example that stands out is occasionally when watching multiple videos in a row with Windows Media Player 10 (eg. 25 minute episodes), the first one will run fine, but the second one will lag and stutter (the video, not audio), so I need to close WMP, and reopen it with the new video.
Also, sometimes when I open WMP, it will take a long time to load, usually in these cases appearing to freeze up, in which I sometimes can only close it with Task Manager > Processes.
I also seem to have this trouble when opening up explorer, such as opening My Computer to get into my C:\, or opening My Documents, etc.

Lastly, possibly the most frustrating problem is the computer actually shutting down and restarting randomly. Usually I don't see it happen, as I'm out of the room at the time (usually for 20+ minutes in these cases), however it mostly happens at night if I leave the computer on (for downloading during the night, when no one else is using the internet)
It has happened while I've been on the computer occasionally though.
Nothing really special is going on at the time it happens, usually nothing is open besides uTorrent. (Which like I said is being picked up as a Trojan, however I've never had this happen before, and I've used uTorrent for over a year)

Not sure if there's anything else I should add..
I'll put in my computer specs just in case:

-Windows XP (Home Edition) with Service Pack 2
    -AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+, 1.80GHz
    -1.50GB RAM
    -Radeon 9600

I have 24GB free in the HDD Windows is installed on, and another 21GB in total on my second HDD, which is partitioned.

I think that's all the (hopefully) necessary information I can give...

    Thanks.

    uninstall utorrent

    -------------------------------------------

    http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTSetup.exe

    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You have two anti-virus programs running, which will cause trouble. Uninstall one of them.

Okay so I've uninstalled AGV, and only have CA running now.

My computer seemed to start up and load everything quickly after logging on, whereas recently everything too a long time to open. Also I had some trouble with my taskbar, where things that should be on it would not appear, yet still be running - but inaccessible.

But that seems to be working fine now.

What concerns me though is that I still had these problems before I installed AVG. (I installed it about 4-5 days ago, these problems have been occurring for about 1-2 weeks)

The problems being the computer shutting down and restarting randomly, and the actual system running slow.

However like I said it seems to be working fine at the moment, only time will tell. I'll leave my computer on during the night and see if it restarts.

a computer usually gets slow either there's a virus or spy wear or there are too many software programs installed, always keep the most wanted software's and delete the rest.

If you have spy wear or virus in ur PC then back up all your important files and folders and do a format and reinstall windows and before install anything else, install AVG virus guard and download the latest updates and do a full scan, and after that, install the AVG anti spy cleaner and get the latest updates and do a full scan and afterwords install the most wanted software's only and your PC will work at its full speed (y)
