I hope this is the right place to ask this..

For some time now my computer has been running incredibly slow. I was wondering if anyone could help me find out what is making it run this way.

I have an emachines running XP. 2.20 GHz Intel Celeron 40 gig 56k
I use Road Runner for my internet connection

Any other info needed please let me know and thanks!

Do you by any chance use a "cutsie" program called HOTBAR? I had Hotbar lay down 3,000 files on one of my computers and it made it run like MOLASSES. I removed all the spyware from that program and uninstalled it and the machine perked up like new. I also find that running a good spyware remover program does wonders... I use one all the time.

Nope..i do use AdAware and Spybot both and neither seem to help much. Just not sure if there is something on my computer that is making it run slow or what. I did a Malware scan yesterday and it found nothing.
I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions on programs i could run to check for things wrong or anything else i could do.

Have you checked that all the fans are running and that the insides are dust free........

    Defragged lately??

Post a HijackThis log and see if anything shows up.

    Download HijackThis to your desktop
    • Double click on HijackThis on your Desktop
    • Then click on Unzip
    • It will install to Program files by default
    • Then Click Start>>>Run type C:\Program Files click OK
    • Look for a folder called HijackThis
    • Double click on it
    • On the right you will see a Icon of Dynamite with plunger
    • Double click on the Icon
    • Click on Icon and choose "scan system and save a logfile" usually in notepad
    • Copy and Paste the logfile in your next post
    • Using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.
