I just reinstalled windows on my laptop and finished installing all the drivers but noticed my wireless internet wasn't working. It gave me the same message "missing driver - missing wireless network adapter". So I downloaded the driver for that (Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card) and now my wireless internet works... However I'm still getting the "missing driver" message every time I start up my computer.

I've been in my device manager and looked in Network Connections and it definitely says "Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card" right under it along with "1934 Network Adapter" and "Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller".

So am I missing something? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Have a look in the event manger. Highlight 'My Computer' then right mouse click select 'Manage' The look at 'System' event view as this will normally indicate what's happening. Report back once you have a look.

Double-click the Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card entry in the Device Manager, then click the Driver tab.

What's listed for the driver version and the driver date?

Just in case you need it, here is the Dell download site for driver version 4.170.25.12 which was released on 12-18-2007. It's a 89 MB-size download.

flavallee - I checked and I do have the current version (4.170.25.12)

Tagware - I'm in Computer Management and under "System Tools". It just brings me back to the list I was originally on with Network Connections and such on it. Am I where you want me to be or Is there something else I need to do?

    OK, good.

Can you post a HijackThis log here so we can see what's loading during startup and maybe figure out why you're getting that missing adapter message during startup?

Make sure it's version 2.0.2 and that it gets installed in its default location: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.

Close all open browser windows and other open windows before running a scan with it.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Oops! It looks like we were posting at the same time.

You've got the correct version and installed it in the correct location.

Give me a few minutes to look at your log and reply back to you.

    Should be here (see attachment)

You need to look in the event view under 'system'

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - Startup(tab).

Everything you see listed there with a checkmark is automatically loading during startup and running in the background.

The ones that I have listed without any links below them can be unchecked.

The ones that I have listed with a link below them are user-choice. That means you decide if any of them need to load and run.

I suspect that the IntelZeroConfig entry and/or the Broadcom Wireless Manager UI entry is generating the "missing adapter" message, so I would uncheck them both.

I'm also curious as to why there's wireless entries for both Intel and Broadcom in the same computer.

    ehTray C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe

    IgfxTray C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe

    HotKeysCmds C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe

    Persistence C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe

    SigmatelSysTrayApp %ProgramFiles%\SigmaTel\C-Major Audio\WDM\stsystra.exe

    KADxMain C:\WINDOWS\system32\KADxMain.exe
    http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=KADxMain

    IntelZeroConfig C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exe
    http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=IntelZeroConfig

    Broadcom Wireless Manager UI C:\WINDOWS\system32\WLTRAY.exe

    HP Software Update C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe

    HP Digital Imaging Monitor C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
    http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=hpqtra08.exe

After you're through editing the startup list, click Apply - OK - Restart.

See if this resolves the "missing adapter" message.

Also use your laptop for a few minutes and confirm that the wireless connection is still working okay.

After you've done that, post a new HijackThis log here.

    Carmidy:

I forgot to tell you that after you edit the startup list and then restart, you need to put a checkmark in and then click OK when the small SCU window(see screenshot) appears during restart.

I can tell that you didn't do that because of an entry in your log.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Did you try unchecking the IntelZeroConfig - ZCfgSvc.exe startup entry to see if that would eliminate the message?
