Since installing windows XP from ME on my Dell Lattude Cpi
laptop my computer shuts down when i play music CD's
or MP3s. My audio and video drivers are Neomagic MagicMedia
256 +AC97 Driver (WDM). Should I find a new audio or video
driver and how should I install them?

    copied from Dell forum

    leduke30 says

"The sound drivers are there (on the Dell driver site), but they are not shown a Neomagic 256. They are shown as Neomagic NM2200/NM2360+AC97 w/SB Emulation, File Date 2/28/01. Download and unzip the file to your C: drive; note the location. Go to that location, open the folder and read the documentation as to how to install the drivers. Dell Driver Downloads follow this routine of unzipping to a Dell folder on C:drive by default, into three subfolders, Docs, Drivers and Utilities. They are not installed at that point, only stored until you install them."

so, go to dell.com and update your drivers for your new OS

I will try that now and hopefully that will fix things,
this is basically an updated driver, right?

I did it but it does not show me the update version
in my device manager. How do I know if I have the
    right driver?
