I am running Windows XP with Plus! program added and have since the day it came out. Just recently a problem developed that is totally frustrating me. While online or off all of a sudden about 5 to 10 different programs or boxes will start springing up all over the screen out of control and then my computer freezes up and shuts down. It is almost like it is bouncing from item to item rapidly out of control. I have a Hewlett Packard Pavillion Model 6635 with a speed of around 500 and a hard drive of 10 GIG. I think I might have too many things that load up at startup but have no idea as to what I should delete or move or how. Thank you so much for any help you can send my way.
Start by reading this thread It sounds like you have picked up something along the way. Ad-Aware is a good little program! Also make sure you have your virus software up to date.
Thanks for the tip on the Ad-Aware program. I ran it three different times and deleted clutter off my system. However, the problem of just a wild, rapid flashing back and forth of programs with no control of the cursor and then shutting down continues. It is quite annoying. I do appreciate very much your rapid response and suggesting the Ad-Aware link. I think my problem may be a little deeper and I am too much of a novice to even describe it properly.
Let's try running msconfig and see what you have in startup. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK. Copy past the results back here.
I will type this quick because my cut-and-paste is not doing it for some reason. I have tried to type this twice and the system shut down and logged off. But there goes. I hope you can tell what to keep and what to remove and HOW! Thanks a million in advance!

Goto Start -->Run and type msconfig
- Go to the startup folder, and uncheck all the items you don't want to start.
Goto Start -->Startup. Here you can delete the shortcuts who lead to programs. All programs in this folder start up with windows...
Real Player can be turned off in the startup.
I don't know what ZingSpooler or compind is.
