I recently did some standard maintenance on my computer (empty recycle bin & temp int files, check disk, defrag, etc.). Before I did these chores my computer would take about 2 minutes to completely boot. Now it takes over 10 minutes and I cannnot figure out why. I did a system restore to no avail, but it will only allow me to go back one month which is right around the time I did the maintenance.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA
    JOHN

Did your standard maintenance include a registry cleaner?

    That is good :)

If you go to the start button, then type msconfig and hit enter, and go to the startup tab...do you have a lot of things starting there?

I do have a fair amount, but it is the same programs that were on startup before the maintenance.

Will do.....it will have to wait tomorrow. I think I might have run Ad-Aware also during the maintenance. Does that mess with the registry at all?

No Ad-Aware is fine. The thing with the registry cleaners, is that registry does NOT need to be cleaned, and most often causes WAY more problems than it can EVER fix :)

K.....thanks. How far back does system restore normally go back? Would a month be normal or does that seem out of the ordinary?

If you are talking about DOING a system restore, then you don't want to go back further than your problem......I'd only do a few days myself.......if a problem is going to arise, you'd see it very soon.

It's all the (04) items running/starting that is slowing you down. You need to look at those and see what you DON'T need running all of the time.

Any that you would recommend leaving from the 04 ones? Or is there somewhere I can check to see which ones are important?
