Hello. The last month or so My computer seems to have slowed down and does something weird. It's fine when I first get on, Then after about 5 minutes,it slows down, then when I click on a link,it takes like 30 seconds for it to start loading. The little icon in the right hand corner is spinning like it's loading, but nothing happens on the status bar, then bam,it starts to load,it's like the computer or something is holding it's breath, then lets loose and it loads.:p I have done a defragmentation, scandisk, disk clean up,
ran ad aware and got rid of some spyware, cleaned out my cookies, history, temp files, but still no good. I have an IBM Aptiva 2270 Pentium 3 with 56MB running windows 98SE.I have a 56k V.92 modem with a intel pentium chip.I have dial up and have always and still do now connect at 45,333.
Like I said this has only started about a month ago.Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Go to the link I posted below and download then run the startup list program,, when you run it there will be a text file generated. Copy then paste that text back here in a post so we can look at it.

Yes, there is a bit of spyware there, mainly in the Enumerating Download Program Files section. Spybot or Ad-Aware will detect and get rid of these.

Another observation . . . not spyware related:

    LOADQM
This is Microsoft Office Query Manager and is known to eat up resources.
You should prevent this from loading at startup by unchecking it in msconfig.

    start -> run -> msconfig
    Startup tab
    uncheck: loadqm

OSA9 is also an unnecessary startup program.
It's supposed to allow quicker access to MS Office programs and features, but doesn't actually seem to do anything at all.

Find out more about startup programs and whether they are required or not here:

Hi.I ran the Spybot and got rid of 55 red items, including 4 Topmoxies, and got rid of all the green items that were usage tracks. It did help slightly, but it's still not back to were it was.
I am going to remove the Microsoft Office items from the start up.I really don't use it.I downloaded it from a friend awhile back to make a few flyers and haven't used it since. Will keep you posted and any more idea's? Thanks all, greatly appreciated:)

If it still seems slow, run the startup list again and report it for us..
    Good luck

Ok.I removed all the Microsoft Office items in the start up as well as any that were on the computer period as I wasn't using them.
It did pick up some after I did that and then this morning I also changed my ISP from the one I had thru the phone company to one that a computer repair shop runs. And it picked up quite a bit then.Instead of doing it like every 5 minutes or so,it does it about every 20-25 minutes,so I guess maybe my ISP was part of the problem. In the morning I am going to run Spybot again,Then the startup list and post it here again, and maybe with the new ISP change something has changed and I can get it completely back to normal.:D
