I would appreciate it if you would stop making any other comments in this thread - considering some of your advice is unwarranted and some of it is dangerous.

Thanks for submitting screenshots of your Add Or Remove Programs list. They're a little blurred, but I can see most of the programs and add-ons. Thanks for advising the ones that you know for a fact you use.

    Adobe AIR can be uninstalled.

Adobe Reader 8.1.4 needs to be updated to Adobe Reader X(10.0.1)

    DivX Setup can be uninstalled.

Google Chrome can be uninstalled if you no longer use that browser.

iPod For Windows 2005-09-23 is very outdated and can be uninstalled.

    OpenOffice.org 3.2 needs to be updated to OpenOffice.org 3.3

Windows Live Installer can be uninstalled.

    -------------------------------------------------

If you're still using a Microsoft mouse, Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.3 is very outdated and should be updated to Microsoft IntelliPoint 8.0

Thanks for the help on that, i really wanted to get rid of the tings i don't know and don't need.
No i don't use a Microsoft Mouse, but i do use a Genius tablet for drawing, Is intellipoint helping that or not? Because if not ill just delete it.

And do you want the Hijackthis log after i'm done deleting and installing this set of software?

If you're using a Genius tablet, this site might be useful to you.

Do you use an external mouse with that laptop or do you use just the touchpad?

It's my guess the previous owner used an external Microsoft mouse with it.

Yes, please submit a new HiJackThis after you're done with installing and uninstalling and updating.

No i don't use an external mouse.
My tablet comes with a mouse that i can use but it only works on the tablet.
I normally just use the touch pad on the laptop.
And ill post the Hijackthis log when im done, which should be in a few minutes.

Edit: while trying to delete ipod for windows it wont let me delete it, it just updates it.

It's my guess the touchpad in that HP laptop is either a ALPS or a Synaptics.

Since you're not using an external Microsoft mouse, you can uninstall Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.3.

Take your time with submitting a new HiJackThis log.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Update: I just checked the support site for that laptop, and the touchpad is a Synaptics.

Im looking through file hippo and would you reccomend downloading CCleaner? I had a program like this once but it was a trial, or do i not really need it.

And the log may take a little while, openoffice is taking forever to download.

Edit:: Adobe reader wont let me install saying that i need to close the previous version. But i dont know how to do that.

You don't need CCleaner, and using its registry cleaner feature can cause serious problems.

You must have a much slower connection than I thought, if it's taking your computer so long to download OpenOffice.org.

Uninstall Adobe Reader 8.1.4 first, then install Adobe Reader 10.0.1.

But all other downloads i did went fast. It also takes open office longer than most programs to open. I don't know whats up with that, but i haven't had a chance to defrag in months so maybe that's the problem.

And i restarted my computer and adobe reader installed fine.

Also, how do i set SupeAntiSpyware from popping up everytime i turn on my computer? Does it need to be on all the time?

Follow these instructions carefully and in the order listed:

    -------------------------------------------------------

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - Startup(tab).

Remove the checkmark in these startup entries:

High Definition Audio Property Page Shortcut - or - CHDAudPropShortcut

    igfxtray

    igfxhkcmd - or - hkcmd

    igfxpers

ISUSPM Startup - or - isuspm

    ISUSScheduler - or - issch

QuickTime task - or - qttask

    SunJavaUpdateSched - or - jusched

Adobe Reader Speed Launcher - or - Reader_sl

Adobe ARM - or - AdobeARM

    Google Update

    SUPERAntiSpyware

After you're done, click Apply - OK/Close - Exit Without Restart.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Start SUPERAntiSpyware, then click Preferences.

Remove the checkmark in the top 2 boxes in "Startup Options".

    Click Close - Close.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Click start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

Expand the services window so you can see the list more clearly.

Double-click on these services entries one at a time to open their properties window:

    Google Update Service

    Google Software Updater

    InstallDriver Table Manager

    Java Quick Starter

    LightScribeService Direct Disc Labelling Service

If "Startup Type" is set on Automatic, change it to Manual, then click Apply - OK.

If "Startup Type" is already set on Manual, close the properties window for that entry.

After you're done, close the services window.

    -------------------------------------------------------

    Restart the computer.

When the small "System Configuration Utility" window appears during restart, ignore its message.

Put a checkmark in the lower left of that window, then click OK to close it.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

Save the new log that appears, then submit it here.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Click "Apply" anyway, even if you get that warning. Once you restart the computer, the entries that you unchecked should still be unchecked. It's unknown to me why some computers do that.

I'll be waiting to see a new HiJackThis log after you complete my last instructions. Oops! There's the second log. Let me look at it.
