Open the MY COMPUTER main window, then write down the names and letters of the drives that are listed there, then submit that list here in a vertical column.

How is the computer running at this point?

    Local Disk (C: )
    HP_RECOVERY(D: )
    DVD-RAM Drive(E: )

There is also a norton backup drive, but otherwise just shared documents and my documents.

And my computer is running better than it ever has since i got it!
It hardly takes any time to start up and it takes less time to shut down.
And it seems to not run as slowly overall as it used to.
Thank you again for all the help, i would have never known what to do on my own.

I wasn't sure if that computer still has the built-in recovery D partition in it, but you've confirmed that it does, so the RecGuard startup entry needs to remain checked.

I'm glad to hear it's running better and faster and has a shorter startup time. :) (y)

This is probably a good time to defrag the C drive. Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter, then start the defrag process. There's no need to analyze it first. Once it's finished, ignore any message about some files not being able to be defragged. Restart the computer.

Follow the previous instructions in post #7 for submitting a new HiJackThis uninstall list.

Flavallee please to ask me to stop commenting i work in IT as a career, i have already helped in other forums and i have recieved gratitude for it

i was pretty straight forward, if thats the list of programs she is using i would uninstall other PROGRAMS that she doesnt use, i wouldnt touch any microsoft products such as .net or anything thats update related
like if u dont use google chrome i would uninstall that
yahoo browser plus < i have no idea what that is
i suggest u keep winrar its a useful tool

VelvetLightning if you are unsure what u want to get rid of u can ask in the forum on each program and someone here can tell u

It will take me a while to defrag, so the log may take a while. But ill post the log as soon as its done.
Also is it ok to browse the internet while defraging?
I never did it because i thought it was bad..

No, don't use the computer at all while it's defragging. If you do, the defrag process will keep restarting and will never get done, and it may display a warning message.

In most cases, there's no need to defrag more than once a month.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Your uninstall list looks good now. (y)

When you advise someone to use CCleaner to remove "unnecessary registry files", that's not good advice.

The computer isn't running any better or faster now than it was when you started this thread?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Right-click MY COMPUTER, then click Properties - Hardware - Device Manager(tab).

Click the + in IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

Double-click on Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel to open their properties window.

    Click Advanced Settings(tab).

All the transfer modes should be set on "DMA if available".

If any of them are set on "PIO only", change them to "DMA if available", then click Apply.

After you're done, restart the computer.

Note: You don't need to restart if no setting changes were made.

    Whew! OK, that's good. :) (y)

Make sure the transfer modes are on DMA and not on PIO because that can noticably impact speed and performance.

I'm getting ready to shut down for the day, so I'll check back with your thread in the morning.

if theres registry files that are not attached to anything i believe it is, and i use it with no issues, if issues arise that means the registry is corrupt to begin with
