Any computer bought for twenty dollars will not be worth fixing, upgrading or selling. It will either be too old to run todays apps, or not working which can be time consuming trying to fix if at all fixable.

People seem to buy them on eBay. I don't care if I break even. Time is not an issue for me.

I though you wanted to re-sell them. For practice you can't go wrong.

I looked at one of the $20.00 computers and shipping was from $24.00 up to $64.00.

As a learning experience, I think it is fine. As to whether or not you can resell them at a profit, that is another question.

Just as a suggestion, instead of purchasing from ebay, go to a local shop that does builds. They very often have a LOT of pulled parts ie mb, video cards, etc, etc. You may be able to purchase these for less than ebay+shipping.

I was planning on buying broken computers for $20 fixing and reselling them for practice. So should I buy $30 of working parts to make a system? What might I get for $30 ball park including a valid windows license?

    Word of advice..

Local rescue missions or Goodwill. Sometimes Electronics Recycling.
I never buy used systems on eBay unless it's a darn good deal because shipping is atrocious.
