1) You may be missing a toolbar, if one has been inadvertently hidden. If so, right-click in the blank area on the right-hand side of the Menu bar (the one with File, Edit etc on it). A list of possible toolbars will appear. Clicking any of these toggles whether the toolbar is visible or not - make sure there's a checkmark next to
Standard and Formatting.
2) By default, Word 2000 has the Standard and Formatting toolbars on one line. To the right of one or both of these, you may have >>, which signifies that there are more buttons available on that toolbar, but they are not currently visible. Clicking the >> allows you to access them.
I prefer to see all the buttons and more besides, so I have turned off the "on one line" feature.
To do this right-click in the blank area on the right-hand side of the Menu bar and click Customize at the bototm of the list that pops up. In the Customize dialog box, click the Options tab and remove the check from "Standard and Formatting Toolbars share one line".
You may also want to remove the check from "Menus show recently used commands first".
