I just got back from vacation for a week. The computer was off the whole time. I come back, ddraw.dll is screwed up. No problem at all. I delete it, then install DirectX 9.0c again. Problem solved. Everything is running as normal. I go out to the movies and come back, and the computer is unbelievably slow. I scanned for spyware and viruses. Didn't fix it. I restarted 3 times. Didn't fix it. The hard drive activity light is on constantly, but I cannot even hear it loading anything up (it's audible whenever something is being loaded). It goes off for about one second then comes back on again. I have to wait about 20 minutes for the computer to even start up, and about another 5 minutes just to be able to click the Start button. Then, at random times, the computer will be normal for about 5 seconds, then go back to being slow. Other times I can't even click on the Start button for a very long time. The computer will also just stop altogether, then come back 20 seconds later. What's going on? Anybody know? I really need some help. It was working absolutely fine since 3:30 today when I left. It's like something is being constantly loaded, but the processor is at 0-1%.

Windows XP Home
DirectX 9.0c
1 gig PC800 RDRAM
40gb HD that works fine (I have had a scan done on it before and the guy I took it to a little bit ago said that there's nothing wrong with it)
30gb HD that has some physical problems with it, but I my OS doesn't use it, plus the guy said he fixed them)

SpywareBlaster 3.4 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
AdAware SE 1.06 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
MS AntiSpy - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en&Hash=RDXMHB6 (XP and W2K only)

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates
and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
In SpyBot - After an update run immunize

Do these and reboot before the next step.

Then get HiJack This V1.99.1 http://thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe - double click the DL file and click unzip letting it extract to its default folder C:\Program FIles\HiJackThis, run it from there, DO NOT fix anything, post the log here.

I cannot scan for adware. Spybot doesn't scan everything like it should (it literally scans for two seconds and says 'done'. It doesn't even tell me it is scanning for anything when it should be). Adaware just plain freezes, but I haven't tried the MS adware scanner yet.

Booting in safe mode makes no difference, and I looked at the HDD, and noticed that whenever the activity light turns off, it loads an extremely small bit of data. The activity light is on constantly, yet nothing is loading except for I can actually hear it when the light goes off for that split second.

Add remove programs - remove all occurences of viewpoint

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
· Install ewido.
· During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
· Launch ewido
· It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
· On the left side of the main screen click update
· Click on Start and let it update.
· DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Run Ewido:
· Click on scanner
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
· When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your desktop
This will take some time to run!
Post that log and a new HiJack log
