When my computer starts up, it seems to take forever now. I had a spyware problem...could that be why? If I use the CD that came with the computer, I know it wil erase everything, but will it also give me my programs back, like the intervideoDVD software and Notebook Maximizer? And also, how can I save my email in Outlook Expres before I do my recovery CD? Thanks so much!

you will lose everthing that does not come bundled with XP

All your old emails are stored on your pc as .dbx files. Use the search facility on
your pc to find them.

Before you do that though go to msconfig>click on the services tab and click to fill the
"hide all microsoft services". This will bring up all non-microsoft services....uncheck them all
and and try a reboot.

nb: your Anti-Virus will be disabled.

You may want to be patient and post a hijack this log in security. This may make it so you don't have to do a rebuild completely.

As far as losing those 2 if they came with the laptop when you bought it and you got the recovery cd's at the same time than more than likely they will be on it when you do the recovery. Note what was said about everything else as you will lose any documents/settings you may have customized.

Thats a clean sheet you've got there.

go to Run type "services.msc" and disable all McAfee services

OR

remove McAfee altogether. I've seen McAfee slow down boot-up loads of times.
