So there I am sitting on my computer typing up an English assignment with AVG running a test on my computer, there was a Trojan in the list but I wanted to wait until it finished scanning everything. So suddenly the computer freezes, I try restarting but it goes to a black screen with my mouse visible and then gets stuck at the "welcome" windows screen. I immediately got on my laptop and started searching for possible solutions, so I came upon the Windows XP Recovery Console. I put in my xp cd, got recovery running, access my drive and started the recovery process. It got stuck at 54% and now I honestly don't know what options I have left without having to format everything and lose a ****ton if important Word Files. My comp OS is Windows XP if that's any help. Thank you for reading my post and I'm looking forward to a response.
Edit: trying Recovery again, it appears that it was just working very slowly so I've mistaken it for a problem. It's at 58% atm. What can I to solve my issue once the recovery process is finished?
