I am running Windows XP on a laptop and ever since a couple of days ago I have not been able to start it up. It goes to the error screen that says the computer might have been shut down incorrectly and I am given the choice of starting up in safe mode, last known configuration, etc. Regardless of which one I choose I get the same result. I get the blue screen of death  , for about a split second, and then the systems restarts. If I leave the computer alone the cycle goes on and on by itself. What am I supposed to do to fix the problem and still have my files in tact?????????

ive seen this before(probably a corrupted boot.ini file), try this 1st, go into BIOS(hold del when you start up to do this), change boot sequence so the laptop boots from cd rom, insert XP installation disk(i hope u have 1)and restart.

The laptop should now be booting from the cd rom, go into recovery console(do this by pressing R i think), at c: type chkdsk /p /r

    see what this does ;)

im not very good at explaining this i hope u understand what im trying to get across, if not 1 of the other techs will explain better, to resolve your problem
