    Hi,

I have a Toshiba laptop and all was well until after a batch of windows updates. When I shut the laptop down I get the the configuring updates screen which it gets stuck on - I have left it all night and it stays stuck on this screen.
If I then hold the power button down to force a shut down and then restart it wont boot up or even enter safe mode.
I put my vista disc in and attempted a repair which let me do a system restore which then booted up.
However when I went to shut down I had exacty the same problem and I need to do a system restore everytime I want it to boot up.
I have followed a few command prompt guides on deleting pending.xml files etc but with no luck.
When I do get the machine to boot up it wont let me look at the Windows updates that it has installed.
Can I put the Hard drive in a 'caddy' and make any changes/delete any files there ??
Or does anyone have an idea how I can repair the current installation.???
I dont mind reinstalling vista as a last resort but I would just rather see if there's a way of sorting the problem before I do anything drastic.

Would be very grateful for any help - many thanks
