confussing problem

    well, as of late when ever i turn on my computer (compaq presario s5000 series) windows xp, intel celeron 2600) it's simply benn stoping at the memory test screen it says to boot press esc and to proceed press f1. doing either is futile. any idea what the problem maybe

    It maybe one of the memory chips is damaged. Open up the PC and try removing each memory chip one at a time and booting up.. That way you can see what chip is causing the problem.
    Also see if there is an option to disable the memory test on the bios.
