    Hi,
I have a laptop(HP Pavillion dv2000) and a desktop(Compaq Presario CQ5320F). My laptop recently died and I want to take all the data from that hard drive and put it on my desktop. I purchased a simple component that will allow me to connect a laptop hd into a desktop... my question is(I havent opened my desktop yet): Can I have more than one HD inserted in this particular desktop? AND what will happen if I have both hard drives in when I turn it on? Will the desktop still boot from the specific drive(factory) that its supposed to boot from or will the other hd interfere? One laptop hd has Windows Vista and the desktop has Win7. Basically, I need to get some corporate info that I have in my laptop to my desktop without any additional probs. Can you give me any other pointers before I begin this project?
Thanks a bunch for any help on this!

What device did you purchase, a usb drive enclosure? Links if possible and if so no, and in any case it should not affect your boot as your bios has your pc's drive set as its default boot device

i would choose the USB case - rather than start changing things in desktops - its not a big job , but things can go wrong a USB case or adapter would be a good way to go

    my laptop hd is this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197

the component i ordered was $2... Can I buy a component that is simple and inexpensive for the above hd to plug into my Compaq desktop either thru direct conn to motherboard or thru usb? Trying to stay under $20 if possible.

...edit: The hd is in an silver enclosure and has and extra plug over the bare drive connector to fit into the HP laptop

That adapter should work if you know what you are doing in the desktop. As etaf said "i would choose the USB case - rather than start changing things in desktops - its not a big job , but things can go wrong". If you are not comfortable inside a case get a usb enclosure. It should have no effect when you boot other than showing an additional drive.
