I was wondering if it is possible to connect my printer (HP 6310xi) to my wireless router. Both have ethernet ports so I will be using my ethernet cable.

I wanted to do this mainly because originally my printer is connected to my desktop and I am using print share, but I'm getting rid of the desktop so the print share will be gone, and I still want to be able to print wirelessly from my laptop.

    Thanks.

connect the printer to the router. manually setup an ip address on the printer. setup and install the driver on your laptop. done.

There's an option in the driver software to install the printer over a network using an ethernet cable. Do you think if I choose that option I wouldn't have to manually set up an ip address?

You are correct. The print driver installation will automatically search for your printer on the network and apply the necessary settings so that you can print, scan and fax across the network. You will need to run the install CD on any PC or laptop that will need to print to the printer.
