I cannot seem to get through the limited access on my WIFI network. I have a Ralink RT5390R 802.11 WIFI card, a Comcast Cable Modem & network. Laptop Pavilion DV7 connects to other wireless networks and other devices connect to the Comcast Modem no problems. I have disconnect Norton's Security, shut off Comcast Modem Security, updated driver and reinstalled but nothing has worked. I have read that Ralink RT5390R is incompatible with the Comcast modem but I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Truly stumped on this. I have pasted IPConfig /all below with Rizzo being my SSID. I am currently connected through an Ethernet cable to my cable modem while connected wirelessly to Rizzo with limited connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

use norton removal tool - see below

also try a tcp/ip reset -see below

have you tried removing the wireless security ?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Remove the wireless security
    Is your wireless security enabled?
if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect.
if it does - log back into the router and try with the wireless security enabled again

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Norton Removal Tool
I would recommend that you restart the PC and run the removal tool for a second time - I have found instances where the removal tool needs to be run twice to fully remove all traces of norton and symantec from the PC
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...t=Norton Core&pvid=f-core-cur&version=current

All Versions - The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2010/2009/2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products, Norton 360 and Norton SystemWorks 12.0 from your computer.

    What operating system?

Your wireless has an apparently good IP configuration. Try these tests with only the wireless connection (also in a Command prompt, as the ipconfig /all).

    ping 10.0.0.22

    ping 10.0.0.1

    ping 8.8.4.4

    ping yahoo.com

Also please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

I followed the instructions without a hiccup. I twice removed Nortons, I disabled security in modem, deactivated firewall Windows 8 and Pinged necessary IPs. I flushed TCP/IP under Admin Command and still left with limited access unidentified network. I am uling Xirrus and new IPconfig

For some reason you are not getting any communication with the router. Usually this is a firewall issue, but you did use the Norton Removal Tool, right?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

When you tried without encryption you still could not ping the router?

Please show another Xirrus screen shot and be sure to include the Signal History graph.

Signal history, while short, looks good. Sometimes we see a big variation in the strength, which hints at possible problems.

    What is 'Comcast Modem Security"?

Ok. I shut off windows Firewall, Cablemodem security and pulled the Ethernet plug when I pinged. I also noticed when I used the netsh command I got an error on one of the lines. Not sure if that is anything but I clueless about this.

Encryption for WIFI. I disabled it so anyone can access my network right now.

There seems to be something seriously wrong with the OS or the Wi-Fi adapter.

On the TCP/IP stack repairs I get the same as you do except that before your first line ('Resetting Interface, OK!") I get an additional line: "Resetting Global, OK!". I have no idea why you do not get that line. Another small difference is that after the "Access is denied." line I get a blank line.

There is no reason, that I can think of, why you cannot ping the router when not using encryption unless there is a firewall blocking, a driver problem, or the adapter is defective. I think we've more than dealt with the first two.

If you can easily access the wireless card through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to take care of any possible looseness or corrosion. If this doesn't result in a fix I'm thinking the adapter is defective.

Okay, I will take the WIFI card out and insert it a few times. Maybe the HP support was correct. They told me that but I didn't buy it.

Maybe it is. Don't know what it would be though. One or the other not meeting some spec I guess.
