Hello, i'm really clueless as to my next, step possibly a re-install of windows if no one here can help.

i have a laptop and another PC both networked to my PC using crossover cables. 2 network cards in my computer bridged and ICS shared over the bridge. Both can access the internet with no problems using internet explorer, MSN etc.

My PC however will only do the following:

    Ping IP addresses/domain names
allow a bit torrent client to download files
allow a poker program to run online
    update ad-aware definitions

    It will not:

open web pages using Internet Explorer or Firefox
sign into msn (has once or twice since this problem started)

I have scanned with ad-aware and norton 2007 both up to date, found some things and fixed them but still not working.

I had a similar issue. It appear that somehow the DNS entry in the network config was change. I had it set to auto but for some reason they switch over to manual entry and there was no entry in them. So i was unable to access the internet. Not sure if you are having the same proble, but its worth a shot

Are you connecting though a proxy server?
What Firewall are you using if any?

    EDIT: Spelling Mistake

    hi,

thanks for the replies, i'm pretty sure its not DNS, as my computer is the one which connects to the internet via the modem, and so any DNS it uses from ISP, and the other PC's can still access internet.

no proxy servers or firewalls in use,

not sure if any of you are familiar with Live Messenger, but it offers a troubleshooter and it fails at the point of "key ports"

    see pic:

    any more ideas? cheers

Well you posted a Hijack this log Lets go ahead and have one of the Security folks have a look at it sense you mentioned that you do not have a proxy server.

    danielno8,
You need to go here and install "Service Pack 1" This will patch numerous security holes in IE and Windows. As your machine stands now it is wide open to attack from all sorts of nasties. You need to get these updates before we proceed or we will be wasting our time.

DO NOT install Service pack 2 yet. If you install SP 2 on an infected machine it will cause serious problems. Just get Service Pack 1 installed. After you get SP1 installed, restart your computer. Come back here and post the new Hijack This log.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

How is it running now? Any problems?
