I have recently moved in with my Fiancee and switched the wireless router (linksys) at her house. We had the identical wireless router but mine was secured. Using her router (the old one), both of our laptops were able to access the internet. Now, using my router, her laptop is unable to access the internet but is getting a signal from the router. In the wireless network connection window, the status line reads Acquiring network address. Please help!

Are you locking her out with MAC Address filtering (or access control)?

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

After looking into this, it turns out I'm not locking her out. The MAC Address filtering is already disabled. Her laptop is showing a strong signal but still can't get on to the internet. Got any other ideas? Thanks for your reply.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. Also ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

This may be a stupid question, but do you want the command window dump of the laptop that is having the problem connecting with the internet?

Yes, that's the one I want. But, now that you mention it, it would be good for comparison to also see the ipconfig /all from the laptop that can connect. Thanks for your question.
