Have D-Link USB HUB connected to Toshiba laptop running Windows 2000 using the usb port thru the usb hub which is connected to DSL to access the internet. I Want to switch Toshiba out and replace with a Dell inspiron 5150 running Windows XP connecting to internet thru the usb hub. I want to continue using the hub due to it allowing me to use a magnetic strip reader for our pos system. I connected the usb cable to the Dell laptop. It recongnized the new hardware but couldn't access the internet to allow the connection wizard to find the necessary software, to complete the set up.
Can you tell me what I need to do to get the Dell to connect thru the usb hub to the internet? Thanks

Start by power cycling the modem, since it still remembers the MAC address of the old computer in it's ARP table.

In addition to the power cycle, I know (after forgetting many times!) that to connect a PC to the USB port of my cable modem I need to install some kind of software/driver from the CD that came with the modem. Is there software associated with your DSL modem that you need to install?

Well, he's currently connected with the USB, so one would have to assume that the USB drivers, etc. are installed. ;)

Can you determine if you are successfully connecting to the hub? Perhaps connecting to another USB device.

Can you deteremine if you are getting valid IP address information assigned?

John, I read it that he has not yet connected to the internet (via USB port) with the Dell.
