Hi All, I am a new member and have a question regarding to setting up my internet connection.
I just recently got a cable modem and connected to the internet fine with my desktop. However, I tried to do the same thing to my Laptop and it doesn't work. Please advise, I am new to LAN set up. Been using dial-up for a while.

When I set up the cable connection to the Laptop, I went to Control panel and click on Networ Connections, it has my LAN being enable, but couldn't get to any website at all.
Please help me diagnose this problem, been troubling me for the past three days.

    OS is Windows Xp professional.

    THanks a million. :)

When you connect a new machine to your cable modem (technically a bridge), you must reboot the modem. This allows the switches and routers at the cable company's central office to record the MAC address of your machine and assign you an IP address. If you don't reboot the modem you won't be able to connect.

BTW, "rebooting" the modem is removing the power for 15-20 seconds. :)
