I have a DSL connection for my Windows XP computer. Sometimes I disconnect the ethernet cable and plug it into my laptop, and get an internet connection.

However when I plug the cable into another Windows XP computer, it does NOT connect to the internet. What could be wrong?

    Thanks!

Maybe you don't power cycle (unplug) the modem when switching computers. Maybe there is a problem on the other computer.

Possibly that the "not connecting" computer is not set up for DHCP.

Well, what do you mean other computer? How many have you tried it on? Do you see lights in the back of the network card when you plug in the cable? If there's lights,

    Click START, RUN, type CMD

next type "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew"

after it finishes successfully type "ipconfig /all" and post your results after plugging in your connection to the PC that doesn't work with your DSL modem.

If there's any problems or error messages, post them here.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. Actually I screwed up, and ended up doing a "Recovery", and then it worked!?!?
