Connection difficulties

I am running a Dell XPS with Windows XP Pro. I also have a D-Link 614+ wireless router hooked up hard-wired to my desktop to run my laptop. I am also running McAfee, Microsoft AntiSpyWare, Spyware Doctor, AdAware SE, and Spybot.

Many times when I go to access a website, it says that it cannot be found. I renter the URL or hit refresh and after the second, third or forth attempt, it finally connects. Also when sending or receiving email I run into a similar problem. It will not connect on the first try, but will after repeated attempts.

I have tried momentarily shutting off my firewalll to see if that was thwarting me form accessing, but it didn't seem to help. Any insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated.
