I don't seem to have a connection icon in my systray. Seems like I used to have one but don't remember how long it's been gone. I'm running Win 98 and have a dial-up modem with a router connecting two computers. Can anyone tell me how to get a connection icon in the systray or if there is some other way to determine what my actual connection speed is?

    Hi,

    Try this:

Doubleclick My Computer, doubleclick DialUp Networking, rightclick your connection, and choose 'properties'.
In the 'Connect using' section click 'Configure'.
Click on the 'options' tab, and check 'Display Modem Status' in the 'Status Control' section.

There are lots of third party apps however.

Take a look here for some pointers: Bandwidth Monitors

    Good luck,

Thanks, Tony! The suggestion about clicking on my connection in Dial Up Networking didn't work, because my connection wasn't listed. All there is under Dial Up Networking is Make New Connection.

However, using the link for Bandwidth Monitors I downloaded NetPerSec and am getting the info I needed from it.

    Thanks again!
