Hey chaps,

I know this has been asked before by other people but they all seemed to be different cases to mine.

Basically, I have a desktop that I am trying to link up to the wireless network in uni halls of residence. It has always worked fine with the wireless network both at home and in my old flat. However, on this one, I can connect to the network OK but I cannot seem to acquire a network address - the Windows wireless network client constantly attempts to "acquire a network address" without ever finding one. It's pretty frustrating.

A friend of mine shut down some startup processes he felt were clogging my machine and I have a horrible feeling that may have something to do with it, though since then, my desktop has still worked at home. I have tried to start the Windows Zero Configuration and Network Location Awareness services which seem to keep switching themselves off, but even when I manage to get them to stick on reboot, the problem remains that my machine still can't find a network address.

Unfortunately, because its a college halls network, I have no access to the router. Also, my friend next door has no problem connecting to the network through the windows client.

I have run AdAware and HJT (log below) just on the offchance it has anything to do with nasties.

Just let me know if I should tell you anything else. Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks.

Hirst

You have WLTRYSVC.EXE running which appears to be a service rekated to a Vroadcom wireless NIC. You don't want to use it and Wireless Zero Configuration to configure your NIC, just use one or the other.

You might also try temporarily disabling your firewall to see if it is a source of the problem.
