Old system XP Pro migrated to a new Vista laptop with Outlook 07. The address book in OL 07 should be the contacts folder (contacts migrated fine). However, following all the instuctions from multiple places these things still occur: No OL address book drops down; in location where it says to mark contacts as the address folder--it is grayed out and will not let me set it as the OL address book; shows that OL address and Mobile address are already present when I try to set up a new address book (although they don't show up in OL anywhere).

I cannot get the contacts to show as the address book; indeed it won't even recognize there is an address book. From research, moving OL 03 to OL07 in Vista is a bear.

How can I get an address book to show in the drop down in OL 07 and how can I get the contacts folder to show up in the dropdown/as the OL 07 address file? Tried all of the help tips and nothing is working...nor is published online resource help.

Can you tell me what to try next? Frustrated.

Not sure what you migrated from. I know that the Contacts in Outlook 2007 are stored in your PST file. So I've always just moved a single PST (with all my e-mail, contacts, etc) from one version of Office to the next without any problem.

Migrated from XP Pro office 03 (OL 03). The migration was to a Vista laptop with new Outlook 07. Migration is fine. In OL 07, it uses the contacts folder as the address file. However, the area where you click to designate "save as personal address book" is grayed out. When I try to add a new address book (personal/mobile are the choices) you can't add beyond that. Personal/mobile address books do not show up in the drop down in OL as address books. Basically, OL is not acknowledging any address book in existence, and it is not letting me mark contacts as the address book--which is how OL 07 wants it done.

Thanks for the help but it's not hitting the spot. The overall import is fine and has been working all week...I need to know how to get the contact folder in OL 07 out of the gray zone so I can mark it as the personal address book and/or get the current address book that is hiding to show in the dropdown in OL7. I'm assuming if I solve the second issue the first one will self resolve. I have the addresses exported as a csv file again in case I need it. Very stumped....for a long time. And very frustrated. Should be an easy answer in here somewhere!

I'm all out of ideas myself. Not exactly an application specialist, especially when I cannot duplicate the problem myself.

If it is anything like Outlook 2003, before you can see contacts as an address book you have to set the contacts properties.
When you click on Contacts, they are displayed in the center, and on the left is a navigation pane. Right click on the contacts card in that pane, and choose properties. In the properties box there is an Outlook Address Book tab. On that tab check the box marked "use as Outlook Address Book" Click OK and exit.
Then open the Address Book. The contact list should show up in the drop down to select as your address book.

See the information in your other thread.

All you needed to do was copy the PST file and set it as the default data file. Nothing to configure then at all otherwise. In fact right now I have a system that has Outlook2007 and Outlook2003 all using the same exact data file with no problems.

    Stormy,
That's one of the problems...that area is "grayed out" and it won't allow me to click it to move on and set.

That's why I made the suggestion. Then there nothing at all to move.
