Continous BEEP from my 8800GTX

    Hello everyone,
    i'm in desperate need of some advice and help.

    I just bought a new computer and i have a serious issue with my graphic card.

    i switch on the PC i get the normal beep and the pc kicks in..
    Then when the WINDOWS logo appears a fairly long beep from the GPU is to hear..
    OK... i thought as it goes on like normal...
    but then once booted up and after the password another long beep is to hear...
    but all works fine...

    WELL...s h i t really hits the fan when i load a game like TDU unlimited...
    The continuous BEEP doesn't STOP at all...it goes on and on...and it's VERY loud.
    But the game works....it just doesn't stop BEEPING...WHY on earth..?
    I even was so fed up last night that i put on head phones to ignore the BEEP and played the game for a while...ALL FINE...just with the BEEP never ending in the backround....UNREAL....

    It drives me insane....any one has a clue what that might be..??

    Try a bigger, better power supply. All I could find on the Sweex unit is it has 25 Amps on the +12V rail. If the info I found is correct, the power supply is not sufficient for the load you are putting on it.

    Check the specs on the card. I suspect BFG is going to recommend 26-28 amps for the card alone. Then you throw in the processor, drives, etc. 25 amps is not going to be enough, and I would be greatly suprised if the power supply is capable of more than about 18 or so amps continuous.

    If I build a machine with an 8800 series card I use a PC Power & Cooling 750W power supply with 60 amps on a single +12V rail.

    That is a much better pw supply. It might be a little bit of overkill; 72amp on the combined 12V rails is quite a bit.

    I am wondering what temp is your cpu running under normal load? Are you sure the beep is not an overheat warning?

    Another thought; it might just be a low voltage warning from the board. I would think it would be unstable if this was the case.

    my normal op temp is around 35-40*C with QFan enabled...

    The sound from the GPU is very different then the one from the motherboard...
    The GPU sound is way louder and more pitched then the normal motherboard beeps...

    the tech guys from the folks i bought the pc from said:

    -------------------------
    the 8800gtx will make a high pitched noise if the power lead is not
    connected but then it wont boot up either.

    I am guessing that one of the pcx power connectors is not connected and one is
    if you look at the card there will be 2 pcx power connectors to it.
    follow each one to make sure there are no loose connections.. if the
    twin power adapter has been used rather than ones built into the psu
    then follow them backwards to check the connections
    are firmly seated.
    try that first and let me know....

    I done that but all conx seems ok...and BEEping is still there :(

    The most amazing thing is that the card works and i can play...NO CRASHES...
    its just those dreadful continues beep when i play the game or even sometimes only surf the net...

    oh..i don't know....:confused: :confused:

    maybe it isn't even from the graphic card becuase she works fine...
    i can only say the the beep is different from the normal mothernoard beep...
    but it may or may not be the CPU overheating warning...
    but i checked the temps and fans and they are all good..

    Go here; http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

    download CPU-Z 1.41. This is a zipped folder. Make a desktop folder and extract all the files to the desktop folder. After the files are extracted open the folder and click on the CPUZ.exe file. The program does not have to be installed, it will launch from the desktop.

    After the program launches it will take a few seconds then you will get a display. After you get the display about in the middle of the page you will see STEPPING and REVISION. Post the number or letters for STEPPING and REVISION, or post a screen shot of that page.

    If you already know the stepping of your processor, just post the stepping.

    You don't have a key stuck on your keyboard do you? Can you swap that out to check it out?
    You've checked all the Cards including video card to make certain none are loose?
    You're certain while it's still under warranty, that's a hope, your MB doesn't have a short in it.
    All of these things can cause the same kind of issues with your system. Jazz

    I'm going to stick with my initial statement that the power supply is insufficient for your application.

    Based on the information you posted, your processor has B3 stepping. The the PCG (Platform Compatibility Guide) for the Q6600 with B3 stepping is 05B. The power supply platform requirements for your processor are; 16A continuous, 19A peak for 10ms

    Running an OC'd 8800 series video card, and a processor with an 05B PCG there is no way that a power supply with a single 25A +12v rail can produce enough power.

    I would take the tower into a shop where they have a 750-1KW power supply and jump the power supply to see what happens. Running a machine on low voltage can damage components.
