Continuous noise from laptop dv600

[FONT=&quot]Need your help again to solve my friend's mistake. Don't know what he did but he gave me this laptop that has the following problem:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]My laptop makes a continuous noise when starting and after pressing the ESC key repeatedly, the noise stops and the following shows up:[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]Then after about 3 seconds it goes to a screen that asks where to boot from: hard disk or network adapter or to enter setup. If I press ESC again it automatically goes to the window screen and loads normally; then i can use it.[/FONT]

Is there a CD in the CD/DVD drive.
It may be trying to boot to it and hanging.

If it hasn't been plugged in for a while,it may be a weak
cmos battery.
Leave it plugged in overnight,then try it.
