Is there a way, using Windows 98SE to adjust the speed at which drop down menus are displayed.

I used to have this program (I believe it was TweakALL) or something to that effect that used to have an adjustment for it but is there any way to adjust this through Win98se without any external programs?

thanks in advance

You'd need to edit the registry manually to adjust it. The value that you need to adjust is "MenuShowDelay" and it's located at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop

It's stated in milliseconds so, 500 would be a half second and 1000 would be one full second and so on....... Zero would be no delay which is the fastest setting possible.

If you don't have that value, MenuShowDelay" in the Desktop key, then you need to create it.

If it isn't there, you can create it.

You could do that manually, or you could import this *.reg file:

Paste the bold into Notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"MenuShowDelay"="50"

Save as MenuShowDelay.reg, and doubleclick it.
Have the contents merged into the registry.

These are my settings. You can change it according to your taste.

You may have to reboot for the changes to effectuate.

Good luck, Tony :)

Hi David. You can do it manually, too:

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop (to the Key Bryan showed you in the pic). Rightclick in the right-hand pane and choose New>String Value. Type in MenuShowDelay. Highlight and rightclick the new String Value you created and choose "Modify". Type in how long you want the delay set for. I have mine set at "0". Tony's got his set for "50". You can set it for whatever delay (if any) that you want.

Good luck ) sharon
