What format are the Video Files in now?

For .avi, mpg, mp3, wmv, wma files you might try Windows Movie Maker which should already be on XP PCs or you can download for free.

For DVD disks, I use a purchased package - AVS Video Editor.

For Audio from CDs I use a purchased package - Easy CD Extractor

I think all the purchased packages free trials so that you can make sure they work for you. Some packages that I've tried would not run on my PC at all.

I'd like to be able to separate the audio from DVD and other Video which I haven't figured out how to do without purchasing yet another one or more packages - any ideas?

If I understanded well, you want to capture sound from DVD and other video files.

    Try to do following:

    Download Total Video Converter

    1. -Press New Task/ Rip Video DVD , select video file - to convert DVDs
    - Press New Task/ Import files, select - to convert other types of files

    2. Select format to be converted

    3. Set Output file

    4. Convert
