    Hi guys,
Hope someone can help me. I am having problems with CWS or some variant, I can get rid of it with adaware 6 but it just keeps coming back. I'm aware that CW shredder is now not up to date but hopefully someone has some other fix. Following is my HJT log. Thanks in advance for your help
    Regards Wally

    Please do this:

Extract it (it should autoextract to C:\FindnFix when you double click it)

Go to the C:\FindnFix folder and doubleclick on !LOG!.BAT and let it run. It will generate a log.txt file. Copy and paste log.txt back here in your next reply.

Also a new version of Hijack This has been released so get rid of the old one and Click here to download the new one, come back here and post the log from it.

I see why you can't run FindnFix. It is not compatible with any thing less than XP SP1 and IE6 SP1. You will have to go toWindows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs" except for Service Pack 2. This will patch numerous security holes in IE and Windows. Many baddies get on your machine by taking advantage of these vulnerabilities. As your machine stands now it is wide open to attack from all sorts of nasties. You need to get these updates IMMEDITELY!

Note: At this time I cannot and do not recommend that you install Service Pack 2. See here for more info:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;884130

    And here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242

    And here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;878474

After you have installed the updates we can run FnF and remove this hijack.

According to your HJt log you haven't installed Service Pack 1 or IE6 SP1.

    This is what you have:

    Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)

This is what you should have:

Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

    You didn't install them

The list will produce a small database of files that will match certain criteria.
Ex: read only files, s/h files, last modified date. size, etc.
The filters provided and registry scan should match the
    corresponding file(s) listed.
    ササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササ
Unless the file match the entire criteria, it should not be pointed to remove
without attempting to confirm it's nature!
    ササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササササ
At times there could be several (legit) files flagged, and/or duplicate culprit file(s)!
If in doubt, always search the file(s) and properties according to criteria!

The file(s) found should be moved to \FINDnFIX\"junkxxx" Subfolder

You need to repost the FnF log. You didn't post all of it. I have got to see all of it before I can proceed.

 You didn't do that right! You ran fix.bat and restore.bat didn't you? You were not supposed to do that! You already had the log.bat file from before. You just didn't post the whole log.bat file. You didn' have to run it again all you had to do was copy and paste all of it. This is not going to work if you don't follow my directions exactly. You can't be guessing and doing things on your own.

I am going to try to finish this from here, but I warn you that I take no responsibilty for anything that you do wrong. You have to follow my directions exactly. DO NOT improvise in any way. Do you understand?

Right now I want you to delete the both the first log.txt file and the 2nd log2.txt file that you just posted. Let me know when you have done that.

Sorry I was having trouble being able to read the log file, it was in a format that was unreadable. Anyway both files have been deleted.
    Cheers Wally

Now Go to the C:\FindnFix folder and doubleclick on !LOG!.BAT and let it run. It will generate a log.txt file. Copy and paste log.txt back here in your next reply.

When I double click on log.bat it creates a win.txt file which is unreadable and it also creates a number of files in the tmplogs folder I have attached the list.txt file from this folder. I have also searched my drive and there is no log.txt file associated with FinfnFix.

Try editing the line (near the top) of !LOG!.bat (using notepad) to read

    if not exist %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe exit
    from the existing
    if not exist %windir%\system32\svchost.exe exit

Alternatively you could simply REM that line out

save the file (as type all files or type batch) and try again

    PS--
win.txt should look ugly and unreadable
