I recently Formatted my brother in laws business computer after he told me he had backed up his myob files onto floppy's. when we went to restore them he found out that they r corrupt. i tried to recover the data with ontrac, but xp os had overwritten disk where myob was located. i am now left with (2) 3 disk sets of floppy's. Is there anything i can do to recover the data (partial or complete)? I am asked to put in first disk then last then first and it starts to unzip, then error message half way through first disk unpacking. Any help you can give will save them 6 mos. of data entry and my abitlity to remain part of the extended family. Thank-You for any ideas you may offer Krash

Hiya

When you say this bit:

tried to recover the data with ontrac, but xp os had overwritten disk where myob was located
Are you saying that MYOB has been overwritten on the actual HardDrive?

Can you post the full error message that you're getting?

Regards

When I formatted the Hard drive to install windows XP it wrote over the location of the MYOB program files that were on the HD when win 98 was on there. Therrefore all I have left to woprk with is the 2 sets of floppys that were used to create back up files.
both sets are corrupt and give the same error file is corrupt and dyna zip error. I am sorry but i cannot give an exact error message as the disks were given to "proffessionals" to recover the data. they have had no luck at 125 bucks an hour so I will get them back today, and give it another shot.
In the meantime i have had to scan 161 pages of 10,000 items of inventory and formatted to excel files. worst night of my life, any help you could offer would be appreciated.. Krash

Hiya

Sorry for the late reply, been off sick for a bit :(

Okay, have you tried using another PC to see if you can view them? Also, have you fully installed MYOB back on the PC, in its default locations, before you try and recover the backups?

I assume that the files are just backups of the actual program files, and not the program.

I have tried installing myob, into same and other computer in default locations, and restoring back-ups, I have tried viewing and copying files, but I am unfamiliar with the way M.Y.O.B. zips its files (DYNA-ZIP).

Could you send me one of the zips, and I'll see if I can view them? I don't have MYOB, but I can see if its a problem with your setup, or the files themselves.

If you do want to send me one of them, and don't worry, I won't say anything to anyone as its all confidential stuff, I've PM'd my email for attachements. Just put something like TSG in the Subject.
