    Hi All,
I recently purchased a dattraveler 1gb usb key for college and I was storing files I needed on it (due to our college network storage drive going down every second week!). However I cannot access anything I have saved on it since last friday and have tried a few different tools off the web to recover these with no joy. Every time I try to open it it asks me to format it and the file type is RAW. Is there any way of recovering the data off this usb key as a couple of the files are for a major project I am working on! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can you see the RAW files at all? (I presume the RAW files are photo files?)

Does your USB Key have any sort of physical switch on the outside to "protect" the contents?

No i can't see any of the files as it won't let me access the key without formatting it. There is no switch either on the outside to protect it. The key file type should be FAT32 but its appearing as RAW. The majority of files on the key are microsoft word documents.

In that case it sounds like hardware failure I'm afraid. The only thing I'd check first is if it works on another PC, I've had USB keys "go missing" on some machines before.
