Corrupted PSE 3 Catalog

    Most of the images in the catalog appear to be one image on top of a different one. When selecting the image and enlarging it the lower one comes to the front. It is the one with the proper file name and tags. The two are not stacked or versions so cannot be viewed separately. In the editor layers palette the "top" is the only one and is named the background layer. I have tried unsuccesfully to determine if the other image is a hidden layer. I can delete the pair and re-import them separately but that is a very slow way to fix 7000+ photos. Is there another solution? Please help. I am using Windows XP SP3 and Windows Explorer 8.
