Major problems with IE8 on this machine. Any site with Streaming movies is the main culprit, but does happen with other scenerios. e.g. if I open multiple instances of IE8 (anymore than 2). If I have a registry scan and surfing etc.

I realise the hardware is old, but it was fine up until recently and I've had IE 8 for sometime... Cant pin point exactly when it happened. whether is Flash player update or a WIndows update, or IE update.. but it no a happy bunny anymore.

Defrags ofboth registry and disk. Registry cleaner. Optimised services. Virus scanned with Malwarebytes and AVG. Updated all Software and Drivers (where possibl some Ive yet to find replacements). Closed processes via task manager. Tried disabling the accelerator (in Display>settings > advance.....) Not much improvement, from any of the above.

Tried Paging increase to range 1500-2500 instead of default of 756. Which has helped. Removed all History IE, OS and Apps Daily (The only thing keeping it ticking over....If I dont it bad from the off)

When it spikes at 100 CPU I lose al functionality of my MOUSE... everything else is fine. The IE itself is workable as is the keyboard. But without a mouse its pretty hard to take any action. I have on occassions been able to get task manager and close processes with keyboard only.. but if Im not quick enouh the lag time on the keyboard is affected and while it will respond its painfully slow to get to the menu options required. At times just force reboot and going through the blue screen is quicker, but equally painful.

Any ideas, Other than launching the PC out the window? :)

A meagre 512 MB of RAM, combined to a large amount of background processes would definitely cause that.

1- Please click HERE to download HijackThis.

    2- Run the program.

3- Click on the Main Menu button if not already there.

4- Select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

5- Copy and paste the scan log from Notepad into your next reply. Do not attach it.

6- Do not "Fix" anything unless advised to do so.

I wouldn't run MBAM in real-time. An occasional scan with the free version is quite enough.

You could replace AVG with a lighter and effective alternative like the free Microsoft Security Essentials.

To uninstall AVG, run the AVG Remover.

You're expecting too much from an old computer that has an Intel Pentium III 866 MHz processor and 512 MB of PC100/133 RAM.

You're also making things worse by using registry "cleaners".

Get rid of AVG 10 and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials, as advised.
