Hi - I have tried so many things, still no use. I had Goner, Mumu, and Randex worms, and they were removed. I now have new updated Norton. I've installed and cleared spyware with Adaware. Services.exe is the culprit, in task manager it's always at 97-99%. I've run system checks and defrag. Checked virtual memory settings. Removed known icons from startup folder. Removed unnecessary files. Downloaded all updates from Windows, norton, and hp (my printer). One thing that looks fishy is that a WINNT5 Status window now opens whenever I start the computer - I don't know what it is, but I always close it. Here is my hijack this log. Would **greatly** appreciate your help!

But what's going on here??

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Services] C:\WINNT\system32\SERVICES.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WINNT-SHELL] c:\winnt\system32\wbem\performance\safemode.exe

The legitimate Windows service, services.exe does not load from the HKLM>Run folder of the registry.

And what is safemode.exe ??

Note you have TWO instances of services.exe in Running Tasks, this is NOT normal

Check the Services.exe file in c:\winnt\system32 to determine if it is the legitimate Microsoft version (right click on it and select Properties > Version), note the file size and version number.

For Win2k/sp3 you should see this file size:

http://support.microsoft.com/servicedesks/fileversion/moreinfo.asp?Id=242818

Check your c:\i386 folder for a copy (if it has an _ex extension, it needs to be expanded) and compare

Try checking and "fixing" the two items above, reboot and see if they return when you do another Scanlog.
