HP Pavilion 4440 - 333MHz system. My computer started making a grinding noise, and when I took off the cover, I traced it to the CPU fan, which runs some, but not 100%, and is getting louder.

I recently added some RAM by removing the power supply and worming my way into the slots, but the fan replacement will be impossible from this angle.

How do I get to the motherboard on this beast? The "side" of the "box" looks almost impossible to open. Can someone tell me if there is a trick to getting into this thing?

Also, is there anything I need to be aware of when replacing the fan?

Debe.... Thanks for the link. I saw one similar to this, but the "slide out bays" wasn't shown. I'll see if that's easily done. Appreciate the quick reply!!!

Hope that works for you. I have an old HP myself and it was never an easy task to get in to.
Be careful about static when working inside. Always ground yourself by touching the metal case before touching components.
