Anyone have an idea on cpu fan wiring. My motherboard has a 5 pin connector and my new fan has 4 pins. I think they are yellow, black, blue and yellow. As long as I can get the fan going at a reasonable rate I can test the pc. The fan is a 12volt unit. Can I run it off the auxilary power supply?

You can purchase an adaptor from a puter store that would allow you to hook it up to an exixting power lead with out connecting it to the motherboard.

Good luck.

It depends on your MB. Many new MB's have a fan monitor that will shut them down after a few seconds of not sensing the fan running. OTOH, I've never seen a MB with a 5 pin fan plug, most are three pins, GND, +12V, and TACH. Perhaps you should be more specific about the name/model of MB...
